CASA Quetzal Birding & Photography Guesthouse

Our cosy Casa Quetzal Birding & Photography Guesthouse with its panoramic rooms is located up in the Talamanca Mountains close to Cerro de La Muerte. This is the backbone mountain of Costa Rica stretching from West to East dividing the country into Caribbean and Pacific sides. If you visit us we tell you an incredible story of our life why we chose this bird as a namesake to our guesthouse with its melancholic call but cheerful colors.

We are at about 2700 metres, 9000 feet in the upper part of the San Gerardo de Dota valley surrounded by incredible views of the cloudforest covered slopes and peaks.

We have a lush garden on the mountain slope full with flowers and bushes, some feeder stations and both comfy hides and covered terrace to enjoy the view and the high elevation bird species around. There is a trail to the lower part of the property which end at the edge of the primary forest with amazing trees, birds and other wildlife.
Casa Quetzal was originally a typical Tico house which we transformed into a lovely birding and photography guesthouse. We have 3 rooms each en-suite and with breathtaking panoramic views, plus several birds can be photographed even from your room.

In the walley there are several perfect areas to spot birds and we know nearby good hiking trails with winding mountain rivers. The paramo and Cerro de La Muerte with different habitats and species is also very close to us.

ENJOY YOUR STAY WITH US AT CASA QUETZAL BIRDING & PHOTOGRAPHY GUESTHOUSE!
