Because of being at a much higher elevation here than at most of other parts of Costa Rica we always have cool, sometimes even cold mornings and fresh air. On sunny days air gets warm quickly and you are happy to walk among huge trees in the cloudforest or enjoy birding from our shaded garden hides without the hot and humid air which is characteristic in the lower areas.

At and nearby of our Casa Qutzal Birding & Photography Guesthouse in the surrounding forests we can take you to several different trails and some hidden spots where you can see several highland bird species and other wildlife. We know where to find the incredible Resplendant Quetzal but more secretive specialities as well from Wrenthrush to Silvery-fronted Tapaculo as well.  
Most of the surrounding area is protected by the Quetzal National Park and from each of our rooms you can see huge hills covered with old growth primary cloudforest. 

Costa Rica is a Pura Vida = Pure Life country, they try to do a lot for their forests and wildlife, as they say, there is nothing artificial in Costa Rica only natural.. So, we try to keep this up with adding our knowledge, spread world about the country and about our little forest to save its unique wildlife for future. In our valley we have short distances thus less travel, using less petrol which is reducing our carbon footprint. Leave just your footprint, nothing else!

Whenever we are here we spend as much time in the garden, at the hides and in the nearby forests as possible so we do not need to use cars. 
Everything counts and if everybody would do just a little to save our World than we could make it!:-) Being more ecofriendly, saving as much as possible of used things, not using plastics or very limited amount and re use it, separate trash., not using electricity when not needed, close water properly, so there is no loss of water....yes you can also do a lot for our planet.

Come and visit us here in Costa Rica and see yourself this beauty! You can discover the region by going on your own or you can ask Gabor to take you to look for birds and other wildlife or just enjoy the sounds, the trees, plants in and around our garden..There are many adavantages to be at high elevation in Costa Rica. One of them is not sweting all the time and another, perhaps more important aspect is that it is much safer here to wonder around in the forest than at lower tropical forests. There are no dangerous snakes, biting insects, not even poison dart frogs. Still you need to be careful not to touch unknown plants.
