Mammals at Casa Quetzal Birding Photography Guesthouse & Garden & In the region
Costa Rica has about 240 species of mammals, that is about 6% of the world’s mammals species. Almost half of them are bats with about 109 species which actually means 12% of the world's bats. Quite amazing. There are mammals species which are easier to see and we have good chance to observe them, like at lower elevations coatis, agoutis, peccaries, monkeys, sloths and some that are much more difficult like jaguar, ocelot and other cat species.
Some species like tapir, jaguar or puma leaves at every elevation, even nearby our Casa Quetzal Birding Photography Guesthouse & Garden, but still hard to encounter. But depending on the species we know which parts of Costa Rica we have more chance to see these incredible animals. In our area we also have rarely seen Olingo and we regularly hear group of Coyotes as well. Click below the altitudinal lists.
